According to the report by the Polish Chamber of Insurance and Deloitte, “Mapa ryzyka Polaków” (“Poles’ risk map”) seven out of ten of our greatest concerns are health-related: death of a loved one, lack of money to treat a serious illness, serious illness of a loved one, cancer, loss of fitness, lack of access to medical care, car accident. The pandemic has further exacerbated some of these fears.
These risks can be insured against and Poles are doing it more and more often. Personal accident insurance accounted for more than 10% of the Polish insurance market in 2020 (according to the total value of insurance premiums, as reported by the Polish Chamber of Insurance in “Ubezpieczenia w liczbach 2020” (“Insurance in numbers 2020”)). At the end of Q3 2021, nearly 3.7 million Poles had private health insurance, 17% more than in 2020.
On the rapidly growing health insurance market operates Laven – a company in which the INNOventure fund invested in the second half of 2021. The company offers complementary health policies that provide access to world-class diagnostics and innovative drugs and medical devices.
In April 2022, more investors followed INNOventure’s lead. An investment round organized by the 4growth VC fund, which also included several business angels associated with the insurance industry, brought new capital to Laven in the amount of PLN 3.8 million. The company will use the funds to scale its operations.
